AHERA Regulations and Indoor Air Quality
Schools and other child-occupied facilities have special regulations governing them known as AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) regulations, named after a federal mandate enacted in 1986. The law, enforced by the EPA, requires that periodic surveillance for asbestos be performed every 6 months and follow-up inspections every 3 years.
Performance Environmental assists schools and institutions work through the surveillance and reinspection processes and ensure compliance with AHERA regulations. We also help schools assess factors that may affect student and faculty health; for example, concerns about indoor air quality thought to be causing allergies or illness.
